Our Scholars and their Stories

I enjoy being a working scholar. I see it as a privilege that not many can have, so I value this opportunity highly. I sought this scholarship in order to help my mother with the finances, so she will no longer worry about paying for my tuition and other fees. The experience of being a working student has given me a better perspective, improved my time management skills, and taught me about professionalism and work ethics. I am thankful for the privilege that I have been given as a working student and hope that others will also enjoy these scholarship opportunities as generous sponsors continue to support us.

I applied for a scholarship to help my parents with their financial burdens because there are four of us and my twin and I are both in college. I hope generous individuals see working students as hardworking individuals who manage to deal with the struggles of juggling work, studies, and other responsibilities. I also want the youth to look at us as an inspiration to never stop dreaming.

I consider going to college as my most unforgettable experience because I felt I was too old to enroll. But, I was determined to pursue and finish my studies. During my first year, I worked hard to pay for my tuition, daily allowances, and other expenses since my parents can’t support me because I still have four younger siblings that need their help. I took on many jobs, including being an HR clerk and an admin assistant. In 2015, I wanted to focus on my studies so I applied for a scholarship at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation. I passed the interview and exam for the Doña Beatriz Jereza Scholarship. I am truly thankful and blessed for the big opportunity that I have received because I know this is one of the solutions for my future career. I was assigned at the Guidance Center Office because I took BS Psychology. I am truly happy and grateful to my alma mater, the Doña Beatriz Jereza Scholarship, and the Guidance Center Office for the opportunities and privileges that I have been given.

Before I went to college, our family business stopped. Since my twin and I were both going to college, our parents were worried on how to pay for our tuition. Luckily, our aunties volunteered to help with some of the expenses. When I enrolled in USPF and learned about the academic scholarships, my twin and I applied. Fortunately, our grades qualified and we are now enjoying free tuition. Aside from the free tuition, this scholarship has helped me a lot in keeping me motivated to study hard and to always do my best, even when life becomes very stressful

I applied for this scholarship in order to sustain my studies. My parents don’t have a job and they can’t afford to send me and my twin to a university. This scholarship is a great help for me to still be able to go to college despite the hardships in life. It also motivates me to strive hard in order to retain my scholarship. I can’t imagine myself without this scholarship since my family don’t have enough financial capacities to sustain my studies, most especially that there are two of us that they need to send to a university.

I heard that USPF offers a good athletic scholarship so I tried my luck. Fortunately, I was accepted to the Panthers Volleyball team when I enrolled in this university. The athletic scholarship has helped lessen the financial burden on my parents since it pays the full tuition and other fees. I’m also very grateful that there is a dormitory for athletes so my parents do not need to worry about my safety. While I think I can get by without the scholarship, I won’t deny the delight of savoring and enjoying this privilege. This scholarship is like a breath of fresh air.

Since I belong to a big family, my parents cannot afford to send me to college. So I decided to apply for a scholarship because I really want to pursue my studies while also enhancing my skills in the sport of running. Plus, I have always wanted to study in one of the prestigious universities here in Cebu. The USPF athletic scholarship served as an instrument for me to achieve my goals. It has made a significant impact in my life. For the past four years, my parents don't need to think about tuition, rentals, electric bills, and even rice allowance because USPF are providing these to me for free. This scholarship has not only helped me but my parents as well. It is the driving force to finish the degree that I once longed for, which is Education.
